Mervin Ian "Butch"
He was born in Kankakee, Illinois, on April 26, 1926. As a young man, he served in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps during World War II and Korea.
Butch loved baseball and was affiliated with the Brooklyn Dodger's minor league baseball organization in Sarasota, Florida, as a rookie catcher.
He lived in Vallejo for many years and owned Butch's Liquor on Tuolumne Street. He also worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1989. He was a member of the Vallejo Elks Lodge and the Sons & Daughters of Italy.
During his retirement years, Butch loved playing bocce ball and watching his grandchildren play sports.
Butch was preceded in death by his brother, Jared.
Survivors include his loving wife, Wanda; devoted children, Claudia (Steve) Blotzer and Jay; grandchildren, Emily (Glenn) Rhea, Paul (Christina) Blotzer, Samantha (Nick) Menchaca, and Iris Davis; great-grandchildren, Richard Menchaca and Sophia Rhea; brother, Roger; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be missed and not soon forgotten.
Per his request, no memorial service will be held. Memorial contributions are preferred to the charity of the donor's choice.
