Memorial services for Don C. Dietz of Lakeview will be 3 p.m. Friday at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Deacon Richard Linstad officiating. Don Dietz died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, in Mountain Home at age 84.

He was born Sunday, March 8, 1925, in Walcott, Iowa, the son of John and Nonie Nielson Dietz. Don Dietz was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II. He was an entrepreneur and businessman. He was a vice president for Pepsi, owned a 7-UP distributorship and started a chocolate soft drink company. One of his companies was one of the first to use plastic bottles. He played, baseball, football and basketball in college. He played baseball as a pitcher for the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. He was past president of the Lake Geneva, Wis., Lions Club.

Don Dietz is survived by three daughters, Ann E. Brandt of Hinsdale, Ill., Carolyn (Bill) Gates of Marble Falls, Texas, and Debbie (Chuck) Schuyler of Charleston, S.C.; two sons, Jim (Vicki) Dietz of Lake Zurich, Ill., and John Dietz of Adelaide, Australia; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Military honors will be by North Central Arkansas Veterans Council through Alley-White American Legion Post 52. Memorials may be made to Cubs Care Program in care of the Chicago Cubs.
