Randolph L. "Randy" Demaine

DANVILLE -- Randolph L. "Randy" Demaine, 86, of Danville, died Jan. 6, 2009, at Exeter Hospital, after being stricken earlier in the day.

He was born in Danville to Wendell and Amy (Mace) Demaine. He attended Danville schools and graduated from Sanborn Seminary in 1941. He later attended MacIntosh Business School, graduating in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon and Victory Medal.

He was employed as a hatchery manager at Nichols Poultry of Brunswick, Maine, and later for Arbor Acres in North Stonington, Conn., and Princess Anne Md., and for DeKalb-Warren Farms of North Brookfield, Mass. He was also employed as a maintenance supervisor for Digital Equipment Corp. until his retirement. A former longtime resident of North Brookfield and Stonington before returning to Danville in 1979, he was active as a Little League coach in North Stonington, and the Meridian-Sun Lodge F & AM of North Brookfield. He was an avid baseball fan and played semi-professional baseball in the New England League for the Portland Pilots as a young man. He was a member of the East Hampstead Union Church and the American Legion of Danville.

Family includes his wife of 59 years, Ethel (Gray) Demaine; a brother, Mahlon Demaine of Hampstead; and several nieces and nephews.

IN HIS LIFE: Family also includes two sons, Bruce W. Demaine and his wife, Linda, of Weare, and Larry W. Demaine of Raymond; two daughters, Pamela L. Lease and her husband, Brian, of Triangle, Va., and Terri L. Demaine of Danville; and two grandsons, Robert B. Demaine and William E. Demaine.

SERVICES: Relatives and friends may call on Friday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at East Hampstead Union Church, 225 East Main St., East Hampstead. His funeral service will follow at 12:15 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow.
