Mr.Gene P. DeAngelis.
known affectionately by his friends as Geno finished lifes journey on
Friday, May 30 after a short illness with his family by his side.
Gene was born on October 21, 1923 in Ravenna, Ohio. He was preceded in
death by his parents Frank and Philomena DeAngelis. Survivors include
his loving wife of 59 years, Mary; son Gene M. DeAngelis (Janice) of Bath,
Ohio; and daughter Cindy L. Meers (Bob) of Ravenna. He was blessed with
granddaughters, Michelle, Brittany, Nicole, Kristen; and twin grandsons
Ryan and Sean; brother Phillip (Lee); sister Alvera (Joseph) Krak; and
many nieces and nephews.
Mr. DeAngelis proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War
II. He was a graduate of Ravenna High School and Boheckers Business College.
Known as an outstanding athlete, he played professional baseball for the
Chicago Cubs organization subsequent to his military duty. He also excelled
at the amateur level in basketball, football and golf, once scoring a
hole-in-one.
He was the business manager and retired from Suwak Freight after many
years with the company. In his later years, his favorite pasttime was
spent watching his grandchildren participate in various athletic endeavors.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
There will he no calling hours; funeral services will be at St. Marys
Cemetery, Ravenna on Tuesday June 3, 2008 at 1:00 PM with interment in
St. Marys Mausoleum. The family would like to thank RMH doctors and staff
and Hospice staff for their compassionate care, and family and friends
for their thoughts and prayers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may he made to the Gene P.
DeAngelis Scholar-Athlete Scholarship for deserving Ravenna High School
students in care of Portage Community, 1311 E. Main St. Ravenna, Ohio
