GREENSBORO — Mr. Billy Joe Davidson, 75, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital after years of declining health.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, at Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel. A private burial will be held in Marion, N.C. at a later date.

Billy was the son of the late Troy and Carrie Davidson of Marion and grew up in Marion, N.C.

After graduating from Oak Ridge Military Academy in 1950, Billy Joe signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians as a hard throwing "south-paw" with a 'flash' of a fastball. Billy Joe stayed in close contact with Oak Ridge Military Academy through the years and is a member of their Hall of Fame.

In 1958, Billy Joe started a new career in textiles with Burlington Industries which evolved many years later into ownership of an international textile business still bearing his name today in Greensboro, N.C.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann; a daughter, Debra Davidson Oister of Hendersonville, N.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Davidson Leahy and Connor Leahy of Lake Wylie, S.C.; and Billy Joe Davidson, II of Greensboro; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
