SWANNANOA - Alfred G. D'Amico, 94, of Swannanoa, passed away, Wednesday, April 27, 2011.
Mr. D'Amico was born July 12, 1916 in Rhode Island and has been a resident of Swannanoa for the past 44 years. He attended Groce United Methodist Church. Alfred was an avid golfer and played professional baseball for the Concord Weavers Carolina North State League. He enjoyed all sports. Alfred was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during World War II.
Alfred is preceded in death by his parents, John and Gustine Demuccio D'Amico and six brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Selwyn J. D'Amico of Swannanoa; son, John D'Amico of Swannanoa; daughters, Nora Jones and husband, Paul, of Forest City and Jan D'Amico of Swannanoa; sisters, Emily Chapman and Nora D'Amico, both of Rhode Island; granddaughter, Trudy Jackson and husband, Kevin; great grandchildren, Anna Kate, Caroline and Bonnie Jackson.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals with the Reverend Gerald Davis officiating. Burial will be in Piney Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
