Walter J. Crowley, Jr., of Middletown, NY, passed away at home on February 4, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was 85 years old.
Born in the Bronx on August 9, 1927, he was the son of Walter and Kathryn Crowley. Walter attended Holy Family Parochial School and received a full academic scholarship to St. Ann's Academy. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1945, serving for one year. He then attended Iona College, where he was a star pitcher on the baseball team. He played minor league baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1948-1952, even pitching to Willie Mays. His baseball career ended prematurely due to an injury. He was a proud member of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers, Local No. 12 for 40 years.
Walter married the love of his life, Anastasia (Ann) T. Crowley, on October 8, 1955 at Holy Family Church in the Bronx. They settled in West Nyack, NY where they raised 6 wonderful children. Walter and Ann moved to Middletown, NY in 2004, where they were members of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
Walter enjoyed playing golf, watching baseball, traveling, and spending time with his children and 17 grandchildren, the joys of his life. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed. His witty sense of humor kept everyone laughing, especially at Friday night pizza and Sunday morning brunches.
to his parents, Walter is predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Anastasia,
who died in 2008. Life without his beloved Ann was never the same; he
waited for the day when he would join her in heaven.
Visitation hours are from 2-5 and 7-9 P.M. on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home, Inc. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2013, at 10 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, West Nyack, NY. Burial will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet, NY.
