James V. Covello

James V. Covello was
born in Lansdale, PA and a graduate of LaSalle H.S. and College of Philadelphia
with a BA degree.
Jim was captain of his baseball team and pitcher on the All Middle Atlantic
Conference team. He was inducted into the Hall of Athletes at LaSalle
College in April of 1970. He also served on the Board of Directors for
the LaSalle Alumni Association and was named Chairman of the Centenary
Fund. Jim organized the New York City Chapter in 1957.
He was signed by the New York Giants baseball organization and progressed
up through the farm team system to the AA level, pitching all throughout
the United States.
While in the Army (1952-1954) Jim was on the Fort Meade Generals baseball
team and had an undefeated record, pitching the team into the Second Army
Playoffs.
Jim started his career with The Aetna Life and later in 1960 became a
General Agent for National Life of Vermont in PA. He later branched off
to start his own business of Financial Planning and was a member of the
Philadelphia Union League, Vesper Club of Philadelphia and the Italian-American
Club of Wayne, PA.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, six children and ten beautiful grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be Celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 28th
in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church of Ponte Vedra Beach with
the Rev. Remek Blaszkowski as Celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sisters of St. Joseph at
Mount St. Joseph Convent 9701 Germantown Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19118-2694.
