CONNORS, JOHN I., 85, died Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Kent Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Shirley M. (Sullivan) Connors. They were married for 37 years and loved each other very much.

Born in Holyoke, MA, a son of the late Charles E. and Elsie (Button) Connors, he had been a resident of North Kingstown for 24 years. John was employed as a security guard for the Providence Gas Co. before retiring and formerly trained and owned race horses and was owner of the Flower Land Florist in Seekonk. He was a WWII US Coast Guard veteran with the rank of Radioman 1st Class (RMIC).

John was a four letter athlete in basketball, football, track and baseball during his school days in the Berkshires. He exhibited his greatest athletic talent as a baseball player in the North Atlantic Professional League before the war interrupted his career. He was an avid sports fan

Besides his wife he is survived by his two children, Colleen and Kevin; three grandchildren, Kevin, Jr., Christopher and Corey Connors.

His funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick. Burial with military honors will be in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-7 p.m. Full obituary and guestbook, visit www.TheQuinnFuneralHome.com
