Gary C. Clemens of Harrisburg Gary C. Clemens, 69, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2012 at home after fighting cancer on and off since 2004.

He was born on November 8, 1942 in Lansdale, to the late Harold and Mary (Cassel) Clemens. He was a graduate of Norristown High School, class of 1960 and West Chester State Teachers College, class of 1964, where he graduated with a degree in Health & Physical Education and served as the Vice President of his class during his junior and senior years.

After college Gary played professional baseball in the minor leagues for 5 years, signing with the Pirates organization then being traded to the Athletics organization.

Gary started his insurance career with United Republic Life Inc. Co., in 1967, eventually served as its President, and then went on to co-found URL Brokerage Co. in 1986. His professional memberships included NAIFA, NAILBA, the Health Underwriters Assoc. and the Colonial Park Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow.

Gary was a member of Pine Street Presbyterian Church of Harrisburg where he and his wife participated in mission trips for 18 years here in the United States (Tohono O'odham Indian Nation) and also in Northern Europe in the Baltic countries.

He was a member of Pinnacle Peak Presbyterian Church of Scottsdale, Ariz.; he was also a member of the Country Club of Harrisburg and the Harrisburg YMCA. He served as President of the Tierra Encantada of Troon North Homeowners Association in Scottsdale at his winter residence.

He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, hiking, golfing, gardening and traveling. Gary was very proud of the fact that he and his wife had hiked the Grand Canyon three times in recent years, once rim to rim.

Surviving are his wife Baiba (Stumbris) M. Clemens, his daughter Kristina L. Saul and her husband John of Palmyra, his two sons Kenneth M. Clemens and his wife Mary of Harrisburg, Steven M. Clemens and his wife Julie of Harrisburg, his sister Darlene Brown of Hagerstown, Md., his two brothers Donald Clemens and his wife Eleanor of Hudson, Fla., Barry Clemens and his wife Linda of Collegeville, his six grandchildren Olivia Perone, Claire Clemens, Chase Clemens, Cooper Clemens, Delaney Clemens and Addison Clemens.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, at Pine Street Presbyterian Church, 310 North Third Street Harrisburg, PA 17101, with Rev. Dr. Russell C. Sullivan, Jr. and Rev. Anne K. Myers officiating.

Visitation will be from 8:30 until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, in the church. Arrangements are being handled by the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home.
