Raymond (Ray) was born
on October 2, 1934 in Langston, Oklahoma and passed away peacefully at
home on June 17, 2012.
He originally moved to Bakersfield after graduating from high school,
and then returned in 1966 after his honorable discharge from the Air Force
and subsequently playing professional minor league baseball with the Albuquerque
He spent most of his adult life in Oakland, CA, and returned to Bakersfield
in 2003 after suffering a stroke. What people cherished most about Raymond
was his robust zest for life, sports and his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma; his daughters, Deborah Clark, Deirdre
Clark Grimes, (born from his marriage to Alberta Dixon Jenkins), and his
son Darnell Clark (born to Raymond and Betty James); his four brothers
and a sister, four grandkids, three great grandkids, and numerous nieces,
nephews, and friends.
Visitations will be Friday, June 22, from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, June
23, from 11-12 noon; with the Memorial service also Saturday at 12:00
noon. All at Peoples Missionary Baptist Church, 1451 Madison St, Bakersfield,
