Raymond E. Carr
Raymond E. Carr, 87, of Ocean Place, Amelia Island, died the afternoon of April 19, 2008, at his residence.
A native of Springfield, Mass., he had made Amelia Island his home since April of 1991. After graduating from Technical High School in 1938, he continued his education at the American International College, where he graduated with his bachelor's degree in accounting in 1942.
An accomplished athlete, Mr. Carr at one time played minor league baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was honorably discharged from active duty in 1947 and remained enlisted as a reservist until 1957. In 1947, Mr. Carr joined the Monarch Life Insurance Company in Springfield as an accountant, where he worked until retiring in 1964.
Surviving him is a host of close friends that contributed to his well-being throughout his lifetime.
Memorial services were held April 23 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home.
