Joseph Daniel Caputo,
76, of Huntington, MA passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, January
11, 2009.
Born in Huntington on September 4, 1932, he was the son of the late Joseph
D. Caputo and the late Beatrice (Laramy) Caputo. Joe was a graduate of
St. Mary's High School in Westfield, MA.
He was a Corporal in the US Army serving in the Korean War.
As a young man in the 1950s, he played professional baseball with a Chicago
Cubs. Always interested in sports, he has been an avid NY Giants and Boston
Red Sox fan his entire life.
He was a member of the Hampshire County Deputy Sheriff's Association.
Joe spent a good deal of his adult life building quality homes throughout
the Hilltowns and doing professional carpentry and renovations work.
For many years before he started building homes, Joe was employed at the
Cortland Grinding Wheels Corp. in Chester.
Joe leaves his wife of 52 years, Rosemary (Salvini) Caputo; a son, Jeffrey
Caputo and his wife Monica of Winter Haven, Florida; a daughter, Leslie
DeCloedt and her husband Derek of Evergreen, Colorado; four grandchildren:
Ian and Evan DeCloedt and Kelly and Jonathan Caputo; three brothers, Francis
Caputo of Chester, Michael Caputo of Worthington and Patrick Caputo of
Florida and a sister, Carol Diamond of Southwick. He was predeceased by
his brother, Anthony Caputo.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. from the O'Brien Hilltown
Community Funeral Home in Huntington followed by a funeral mass at 11:00
a.m. at St. Thomas Church in Huntington. Calling hours will take place
Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Donations may be made to the Western New England MSPCA, 171 Union Street,
Springfield, MA 01105. A buffet gathering at noon will follow at the Rapids
in Huntington.
Burial will take place in the spring.
