Wallace Stuart Camper,
79 of Merced, CA, formerly of Sarasota, FL. and East Greenwich, RI passed
away August 17, 2012.
Husband of the late Janet Gleason Camper.
Survivors include sons, John S. of W.Warwick, RI and Scott W. (Mary) of
Merced, CA; daughter, Susan L. of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Makayla,
Taylor and Madison; Nicholas and Clare.
Wally was born in Burlington, VT, was a three-sport star at Burlington
High, played semi-pro ball for NH State and minor league baseball. Athletics
and academics inspired a foundation for an active life, first as athlete
and student and later as a dedicated educator, coach and mentor.
He was a graduate of University of Rhode Island and received an MBA from
Carroll School of Management, Boston College.
In 1959, he was appointed Instructor of Accounting and Mathematics at
Bryant College, the beginning of a long career at Bryant.
He regenerated the Baseball and Basketball programs (1959 - 1968), was
Varsity Baseball Coach and Head Basketball Coach; and organized a European
Tour on International trade and business.
He served as President of the College Faculty Federation, and was Chairman
of the Department of Hotel Administration. A Professor Emeriti, he was
elected into the Bryant College Athletics Hall of Fame.
Wally and Janet retired to Sarasota, were members of Palm Aire and University
Park Country Clubs.
In 1994, Wally was elected to Palm Aire's Board of Governors.
Wally enjoyed tennis and attending baseball spring training. Many will
remember his sense of humor.
