Ronald Gene Butterfield passed away on August 26, 2012 after a short battle with kidney cancer.

Ron was born in Murray, Utah on March 26, 1949 to Edward and Mary Richardson Butterfield. He married Patti Angell in Elko in 1972. Together he and Patti raised their family in Sandy then built a beautiful home in South Jordan big enough to entertain their large extended families where they were also raising two grandchildren at the time of his death. I lost my husband, grump-mate and best friend. We all lost our dad, grampa, great grandpa, uncle and brother and friend. He was always right, the frustrating thing is he usually was! He loved all of his children and grandchildren dearly, but there was a special bond between grandson Kyle and his grampa…and baseball!

He made it through most of the major league farm system, he could play cards and shoot pool well enough to have earned a pretty good living just doing that. But I doubt that most people that ran into Ron knew those things because he rarely talked about himself. What was clearly obvious and unmistakable was who he was.

Ron was honest, never compromised his integrity and was responsible to a fault. He was the guy who took up the slack, the one who would never let you down. He was the guy who made sure the lights stayed on and no one was left behind. Not up front where everyone could see him, but in the back. Grinding everyday to make sure those around him did not have to. The message he sent was do the right thing. And always, always, WASH YOUR HANDS!!

Ron worked for Cook Lumber, Summit County Lumber and for the last 32 years Butterfield/Probuild lumber. He loved his job and the people he worked with, especially his sales crew. He loved going on the river trips with his customers. Mostly he loved just hanging around the house with his family, barbequing and having fun. We will miss him more than words can say.
