Howie was born November 18, 1921 in Montrose, CO. He graduated from Denver South High School in 1940 where he played on the baseball and football team. He left Denver to play pro baseball as a catcher.

After playing in the Southern League, he came to Eau Claire to play with the 1942 Eau Claire Bears, the year the Bears won the pennant. In Eau Claire he met and married the "Love of his Life", Geraldine Skogstad. Entering the Naval Air Corps in January 1943, he served as a pilot and skipper of an Air-Sea Rescue boat, earning the rank of Lieutenant J.G.

After the service, Howie and Geri came back to Eau Claire where Howie worked and retired from Sears and Roebuck as head of the Appliance Department. In Eau Claire Howie coached the Leif Conoco baseball team and the Colfax team. He was one of the four founders of Eau Claire Little League.

Howie loved baseball and involved himself in all levels from youth to professional ball and he loved watching his grandchildren play ball.

Besides baseball he had a passion for hunting, fishing and woodworking. For years he trained and ran Labrador Retrievers in competitive field trials.

In his retirement, Howie, his son, Steve, and daughter-in-law, Diane owned and operated Wendy's restaurants. He loved traveling with Geri to Mesa, AZ for several winters. Going to breakfast every morning with friends was something he treasured. He enjoyed a special family gathering on celebrating his 90th birthday.

Howard was a Masonic Member of Sanctuary Lodge 347 and Scottish Rite Valley of Eau Claire. His family and friends will miss his sense of humor and positive attitude.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Medea Bullock; and his brother, David.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Geri; daughter, Sandra (Frank Mittermeyer); son, Steve (Diane Schiefelbein); sisters, Mary Myrick and Marie Myrick; many nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Tina Molini, Tania Didier, Stephanie King, Jennifer, Brett and Robert Bullock; and seven great-grandchildren.

Masonic Services will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, September 26, 2012 at Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire, WI 54701.

Visitation will begin at the conclusion of the Masonic service at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning at the funeral home and continue until the time of service.

Funeral service will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the funeral home. Pastor Jim Page of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate.

Committal services will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon in Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington with military honors being rendered by American Legion Post 53.
