BUCHANAN - Robert L. "Buck" Age 65, of 122 Rosewood Drive, Elizabeth City, NC died Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Albemarle Hospital.

Born in Alton, IL and a native of Buffalo, NY, he was the son of the late Ida Buchanan Cole and was the husband of Harriett Evans Buchanan of Elizabeth City, NC. Mr. Buchanan was a graduate of East High School in Buffalo, NY. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army in Viet Nam.

Mr. Buchanan worked as a brick mason until retirement and was a member of the Brick Layers Local 3, New York since 1971. He had been a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers and had been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Buffalo, NY.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Buchanan is survived by a step-daughter, Alicia Kim White of Elizabeth City, NC; three step-sons, Sean Evans of Massachusetts, Ulysses Edwards, Jr. of Elizabeth City, NC and Michael Carter of Buffalo, NY; three brothers, Ronald Cole and wife Cheryl, John Cole and William Cole, all of Buffalo, NY; a sister, Henrietta Robinson of Buffalo, NY; a special cousin, Philip S. Richardson and wife Martha of Elizabeth City, NC; best friends, Eugene Robinson, Wally and Pricilla Hill, Roger Brown, Levi Ruffin, Jerry Bowman, Charlie Allman and Al Harvey, along with a multitude of other friends and associates; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Service will take place on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 2:00 PM at St. John's Baptist Church, 184 Goodell Street, Buffalo, NY with the Rev. Michael Chapman officiating.

The family suggests memorial donations to The Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, NY. TWIFORD MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 406 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is assisting the Buchanan family.
