Don was raised and educated in Red Bluff. He attended College of the Pacific in Stockton where he starred in basketball and baseball. He also played professional baseball with the Sacramento Solons. Don served in the U.S. Army for two years and was stationed in Germany. In 1955, he married Betty Ann Prindle. They settled in Chico and operated Chico Marble and Granite Works with Don's brother, Jim.
Don was a longtime and respected baseball, basketball, and football official. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; brother, Jim; and father, Ted.
Survivors include his children, Jason and wife Lynda, Kathleen and husband James Jack, Ted, Donald, Jr., and Patrick; grandchildren, Joshua, Kerri, Matthew, Karli, Katie, Kimberly, Jimmy, Ryan, Nichole, David, Andrew, and Danny; great-grandchildren, Leila, RJ, Alexis, Matt, and Mike; his mother, Ella; brothers, Bob, Richard, and Larry Brownfield; sisters, Teddy Plocher and Elinor Wolf.
Private Burial will take place at Oakhill Cemetery in Red Bluff. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Gerber Bible Hall in care of the Funeral Home. View obituary and share your thoughts online at nbcfh.com.
