SILER CITY — Donald "Don" Arthur Brown, 77, of 918 W. 6th Street, Siler City, died Sunday, February 24, 2008, at his home.

The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, N.C., with Rev. Boyd Byerly officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Brown was born August 21, 1930, the son of Joseph C. and Frances (Brady) Brown.

Mr. Brown was a native of Buffalo, N.Y., was retired with the Siler City Police Department and a Marine veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First Wesleyan Church of High Point, where he was a greeter and a Sunday School Superintendant of Rolling Hills Church of Nazarene. Don was a member of the Siler City Fire Department, American Legion Post # 93 and was an insurance agent. He played minor league baseball with the Cubs.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jones Brown and his parents, Joseph C. and Frances Brady Brown.

He is survived by one son, Brian K. Brown and wife, Kimberly of Archdale, N.C.; three sisters, Joann B. Cartwright and husband, Bob of East Aurora, N.Y., Diane Brown of Amherst, N.Y., Judy B. Varga and husband, Frank of Depew, N.Y.; two brothers, Roger Brown and wife, Rose of East Amherst, N.Y., John Brown and wife, Janice of Cheektowaga, N.Y.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home.
