VIENNA, GA. - James Allen Braxton, 69, of 268 Faver Road, Vienna, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012.

Born in Greenville, N.C., he was the son of the late James T. Braxton, Jr. and Luna Mae Edwards Braxton. Growing up in Greenville, James Allen was a standout on Little League, American Legion, and the Winterville High School baseball teams. He is an alumnus of UNC Wilmington, attending on a baseball and basketball scholarship.

He was a professional baseball player, businessman, and farmer. He served the community of Dooly County as a baseball coach and a member of various community organizations including the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, Lions Club, and Kiwanis Club, as well as being a supporter of the Vienna United Methodist Food Bank.

Survivors include his wife, Jane M. Braxton of Vienna; children, Lewis Braxton and wife, Jessica, of Warner Robins, Susan Davies and husband, Nigel, of Fleetwood, N.C., Brett Braxton and wife, Ashley, of Cordele, and Ben Braxton and wife, Kathryn, of Vienna; siblings, Tommy Braxton of Greenville, N.C., Laura Braxton Tew of Greensboro, N.C., and Robert Braxton of Greenville, N.C.; grandchildren, Patrick Braxton, Brad Braxton, Jonathan Braxton, Landon Braxton, and Taylor Braxton, all of Warner Robins, and Samantha Braxton of Vienna.

James Allen was the nephew of Carrie Dail and S.A. Paramore and Mary Lou Sugg of Greenville, N.C. and their extended families.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Vienna City Cemetery, Vienna.
