Charles Bowerman Sr.
David Charles Bowerman Sr., 81, of Milford, husband of Margaret L. Bowerman for 64 years, died Oct. 14, at home, surrounded by his family. His son, Darryl Bowerman and his wife, Donna live in Seymour.
Son of the late Charles and Virginia Bowerman of Williamstown, Pa., he was born June 23, 1930 in Gratz, Pa.
A former three sport all-star, Mr. Bowerman was signed in 1949 by the New York Yankees at the age of 19 where he played for two years in their minor league system.
Mr. Bowerman was a decendant of the late Frank Bowerman who was the battery mate of Hall of Famer Christy Matthewson of the New York Giants.
He moved his family in 1957 to Milford, where he was employed by the Southern Connecticut Gas Company for 32 years and retired as superintendant of transportation and maintenance.
Besides his wife, survivors include his sons, Gary Bowerman and his wife, Sandi of Hilton Head, S.C., David Bowerman Jr. of Crawfordsville, Ind., Ed Bowerman and his wife, Betty of Trumbull, Terry Bowerman and his wife, Diane of Monroe, Keith Bowerman and his wife Nancy of West Haven, and Darryl Bowerman and his wife, Donna of Seymour; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Edith Umholtz and Merlene Reitenbach of Williamstown, Pa.; and sister-in-law, Julia Bowerman of Harrisburg, Pa.
Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, handled arrangements. Burial in King’s Highway Cemetery, Milford.
