WINDHAM, VT James A. "Alan" Bower, 77, of Windham died Saturday, July 7, 2012 at home, following an illness.

Alan was born in Jersey City, N.J., on July 15, 1934, son of John and Ella (Price) Bower and was raised in Caldwell, N.J. He was a graduate of Caldwell High School with the class of 1953.

Alan played minor league baseball as a pitcher for the Cardinals and Giants in the minor league system.

Mr. Bower worked as a civilian employee for the Army at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey as a contract specialist.

Following his retirement in 1989, he was involved in several building projects, and enjoyed playing tennis and golf. He has lived in Windham since 1993.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Dawn (Hartkopf) Bower; two sons, Keith A. Bower of Windham and Scott R. Bower and his wife Danna of Youngsville, N.C.; a daughter, Jill S. Reilly and her husband John of Midlothian, Va.; and nine grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son, Dale D. Bower, who died in 1993 and by a sister, Lois Bower.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the Windham Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Windham Center Cemetery.

Visiting hours at the ADAMS FUNERAL HOME, 35 Depot St., Chester, are Tuesday, July 10, from 5 to 8 p.m.
