H. - age 89, of Woodstock, formerly of Knoxville, TN, passed away December
Mr. Boggs was born in Marion, NC to the late John & Hester Boggs and
served his country in the US Army during WWII.
John H. Boggs was selected to the 1939 National Baseball Congress Amateur
All American Team at 17. During WWII he won the MLB batting championship
playing for Hickam AFB in Honolulu Hawaii. He coached many championship
baseball teams in Knoxville. John was a past President of Tennessee Optimist
International. He served a very civic life in Knoxville.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Sam & Terry Boggs.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy Jean Boggs; son
& daughter-in-law, Steven J.& Dorothy Boggs; sons, James C. Boggs
and Mark W. Boggs; grandchildren, Shawn Boggs, Amber Boggs, Kirstyn Boggs
and Coleson Boggs; siblings, Cecil Boggs, Charlotte LaBoone, Betty Williams
and Pat Mathis; numerous nieces & nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, December 4, 2010 in the
Woodstock Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will be held 2:00 PM Monday, December 6th in Greenwood Cemetery,
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 PM until
service time on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to Fountain
City United Methodist Church, 212 Hotel Road, Knoxville, TN 37918.
