Beringer, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather and loyal friend,
passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends Monday, Jan.
17, 2011. He was 82.
Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Rita Catholic
Church, Fort Worth. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park.
Visitation: The family will receive friends 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at
Thompson's Harveson & Cole with a prayer service beginning at 6:30
p.m. and a rosary following.
Pallbearers: Alan Crawford, Dean Neunaber, Mike Miller, Kevin Crawford,
BJ Phillips, Joe Nix, Russell Ator, Joe Dulle and Buddy Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers: Mike Napoli, Jack Lindsey, Mark Presswood, Carl
Bell, Monty Klegg, Gary Massie, John Dietrich, David Hatchett, Karl Walker,
John Bilbow and Ronnie Conger.
Memorials: Should friends desire, memorials in lieu of flowers may be
given to St. Rita Catholic Church, the WARM Place or Cook Children's Medical
Center.
Carroll was born Aug. 14, 1928, in Bellwood, Neb., to Anne and Peter Beringer.
He was a graduate of Marietta High School. In 1946, he left the family
farm and signed a contract to play professional baseball for the Dodgers
organization. He was drafted into the Army in 1951 and served two years
in Stuttgart, Germany. Carroll's 33-year baseball career with the Fort
Worth Cats, Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies ended with his
retirement in 1978.
Carroll married the love of his life, Jimmie Nix, in 1954. They celebrated
their 56th year of marriage in February. They raised three beloved daughters.
Carroll was an active member of the Fort Worth Basketball Officials Association
for over 15 years.
Following retirement, he continued his interest in baseball by assisting
in Texas Wesleyan University's fundraising effort. He successfully recruited
baseball players and other sports celebrities to perform at annual banquets
in an effort to raise funds. His love of the Fort Worth Cats continued
in later years as he was involved in the rebuilding of LaGrave Field at
its original site. Carroll and his wife, Jimmie, have been members of
St. Rita's Catholic Church for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Anne Beringer.
Survivors: His wife, Jimmie Beringer; daughter, Cheri and her husband,
Alan Crawford, and their children, Kevin and Jill, Amy and BJ, and Lauren;
daughter, Lisa and her husband, Dean Neunaber, and their daughters, Kristin
and Courtney; daughter, Karen and her husband, Mike Miller, and their
daughters, Natalie and Sidney; siblings, Paul Beringer, JoAnn Hermandorfer
and her husband, Walter, Keith Beringer and his wife, Dianne, and David
Beringer and his wife, Carol; sister-in-law, Deda Ator and her husband,
Russell; brother-in-law, Joe Nix and his wife, Louise; and countless loved
ones and friends.
