John "Jack"
Bennett Sr., 80, of Westminster, formerly of Cambridge, died Thursday,
Aug. 19, 2010.
Born Feb. 8, 1930, in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Earl and Evelyn
Andrews Bennett.
After graduating high school, he was a professional baseball player with
the Brooklyn Dodgers farm club for four years. He then served for two
years in the United States Army.
After his military service, he attended college in Baltimore and began
his career in accounting and tax preparation. He began and developed tax
preparation offices in Westminster and Hanover, Pa.
Surviving are children Stan Bennett, of Buckeye, Ariz., John Bennett Jr.,
of Westminster, and Susan Bennett, of Denton; a brother, Earl "Buddy"
Bennett, of Lakewood, Colo.; grandchildren Mandy, Josh, Brandon, and Emily
Bennett; and a friend, Phyllis Egger, of Hanover.
He was predeceased by a brother, Ted Bennett; and a sister, Elaine Bennett
Day.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service,
2 p.m. Monday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road,
Westminster, with Steve Hull officiating.
Interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Rest Haven Cemetery in
Hanover.
