Vandalo "Babe"
Barsotti passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones the morning of
May 20, 2009 at age 92.
Von was born June 14, 1916 in the North Beach neighborhood of the city
and was proud to have grown up, gone to school with, and played ball with
the DiMaggio brothers. Von played briefly with the Boston Red Sox farm
team and then returned to S.F. and worked for many years with his brother
Ricco running Barsotti Bros. Hardware store in Bay View.
His wife of 49 years, Jeanne, preceded him in death in 1989. Also preceding
him in death are his brother Enrico and sister Elena.
He is survived by his daughters Vondra and Mary and by his nephew, Matt,
and niece, Mary B, whom he and Jeanne graciously raised from a young age.
He leaves behind seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
His loving companion of many years, Jean, was at his side when he passed.
He also leaves his nephew Dick Barsotti and niece Theresa Smith and their
families.
Private memorial services are planned.
