Carl E. Ashford, 82, of Placentia, died March 23, 2009, in Anaheim.
He was born Oct. 15, 1926, in Skidmore, Mo. He served in the Navy during World War II.
He played minor league baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1948 until 1953. He coached and played baseball at Loyola University in the 1950s. He earned a master's degree at USC in 1971. In 1989, after 34 years, he retired from the Department of Water and Power in Los Angeles. He coached youth sports for 19 years, including teams in Chino and Chino Hills, and played senior softball for 20 years.
A graveside service will be held from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery.
