James A. Abdella, 72, lifelong resident of Shrewsbury, died Friday, November 4, 2011 after an illness.

He leaves his wife, Joann R. (Molinari) Abdella; a son, James D. Abdella and his wife, Anneliese of Menlo Park, CA; his mother, Elizabeth A. (Daboul) Abdella of Shrewsbury; three step-children, Elayne Fikucki and her fiancé Darren Pinto of Rutland, Robert Pedone of Shrewsbury and Jill Muller and her husband, Michael of Millbury; a brother, Richard Abdella of Shrewsbury; also survived by six grandchildren, Annika, Thea, Will, Ana, Michael and Julianne.

James was born in Worcester and raised in Shrewsbury, son of Elizabeth A. (Daboul) Abdella and the late James Abdella. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.

In high school and college, James was an outstanding athlete, lettering in several sports, excelling in Baseball. After college, James was drafted into the Baseball Minor Leagues, and played for the Cleveland Indians. Later in his life, James was honored and inducted into the Shrewsbury Hall of Fame.

Mr. Abdella was the President/ Owner of James Abdella Beauty Supplies in Shrewsbury for many years.

Relative and friends are invited to visit with Jim's family on Monday, November 7, 2011 from 4-8 PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. A prayer service will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 10:30AM in the funeral home. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions in Jim's memory can be made to a charity of one's choice.
