Thomas Knox Clyde, 82, a retired insurance salesman for American United Life Insurance, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005.
Funeral: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ridgeview Presbyterian Church, 12717 Marsh Lane, Dallas. Burial: Lone Oak Cemetery, Chapel Hill, Tenn. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home.

Tom was born Aug. 17, 1923, in Wachapreague, Va., but spent most of his youth in South and North Carolina.

He attended Presbyterian College for three and a half years and played professional baseball for the Philadelphia Athletics, before being called into the Army in 1943.

He married Martha Ledbetter in July 1947 and was married for 44 years.

He was a career insurance salesman for American United Life Insurance, retiring in 1993.

Tom loved to travel, take culinary excursions and watch sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys, and play golf.

He had a very special fondness for his grandchildren, Anthony, Carrie, Matthew, Lisa and Stacy.

He was a longtime member of Ridgeview Presbyterian Church and Brookhaven Country Club, where he had numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Clyde; his brother, Joe Clyde; and sister, Nancy Clyde Sweeney.

Survivors: Son, David Clyde and wife, Nancy; daughter, Melinda Sofio and husband, Rocky; brother, Calvin and wife, Alice; special friends, Patsy and Jennifer Mason; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
